Assistant/Storyteller Needed for Summer Science Camp

  • Are you a good improvisational storyteller?
  • Do you have a sense of humor and the ability to remain calm in the midst of controlled chaos?
  • Are you great with kids?
  • Do you like science?
  • Are you punctual, reliable, and willing to pitch in wherever you’re needed?
  • Are you interested in training to be a science instructor?

If so, you may be right for the role of Rock-it Science assistant at our summer camp in Santa Clara.

At Rock-it Science, we use crazy stories in combination with exciting hands-on experiments to make kids enthusiastic about learning science.

As a camp assistant, your main duties will be to assist the instructor, pass out supplies, help with prep and cleanup, etc. But as you become familiar with the lessons, you’ll also have an opportunity to tell some of the stories and present experiments. In addition, an outstanding summer assistant would receive first consideration when an opening occurs for a year-round regular instructor.

This is an 8-week gig (June 21 – August 13), 5 days per week Mon-Fri, 8 hrs per day, $10 per hour.

We are hoping that this position will serve as a training ground for new year-round instructors (at a higher pay rate.)

Audition (Required):
Thursday, April 1 at 7:00 pm
Rock-it Science, 2110-F Walsh Ave., Santa Clara 95050

Advance reservation required (email only, no phone calls).

  • Respond to: jobs@rockitscience.com and include “Camp Audition” in the subject line.
  • Give us your name and contact information and a one-paragraph description of why you want to work at Rock-it Science. Include only relevant experience related to live theatre, working with kids, etc. – not your entire resume. Don‘t worry if you’re not a science whiz – we can teach you the science experiments after you’re hired. We’re looking for someone who can bring the lessons to life with enthusiasm and humor.

For the audition:

  • Watch this video and be prepared to present the first part of the story, using the whiteboard (from 1:15 min to 7:00 min on the video): Air Pressure Video
  • Don’t try to memorize the story word-for-word; we prefer that you improvise so it sounds natural.
  • You don’t have to be a great artist. Stick figures are fine, as long as you get the concept across and keep the kids engaged in the story.
