High School Chemistry and Physics Classes

Hands on, experiment based chemistry and physics classes for high school! We alternate between a-g Chemistry and a-g Physics classes for our high school students, with a-g Chemistry planned for the 2026-2027 school year and a-g Physics in 2027-2028.

a-g High School Chemistry

Explore atoms, elements, compounds, mixtures, and reactions! Our comprehensive high school Chemistry class combines exciting hands on labs with interesting explanations and classroom discussion.

• Exciting, hands on labs each week! We have a full range of chemicals, glassware, chemistry stands, hot plates, safety equipment, and more to provide high quality chemistry labs.
• Approved a-g Chemistry class through Ocean Grove. This course can also count for a-g Chemistry Honors with added semester lab final projects (recommended).
• Prerequisites: This class involves working with flames, hot plates, acids, and other strong chemicals so students must be able to reliably follow instructions for safety reasons. Instructions for labs are given in writing, verbally, and through demonstration of how to use equipment. Having completed Algebra 1 and age 14+ are also requirements.
• Materials: All materials, equipment, and safety equipment for labs are provided. Student will need a laptop (preferred) and/or pen and paper for taking notes and solving problems in class.
• Textbook: Inspire Chemistry by McGraw Hill. Ocean Grove students can request a copy from their ES, or used textbooks (other editions are fine) can often be found reasonably priced online

a-g High School Physics

Explore mechanics, energy, optics, electricity, and more through discussion, assignments, and weekly hands on experimentation! Our comprehensive a-g Physics class combines exciting hands on labs and interesting explanations that involve our favorite Rock-It Science characters.

• Exciting, hands on experiments each week!
• Class length two hours to allow more time to go in depth and engage in discussion.
• Full a-g Physics class with weekly assignments and textbook connections.
• Prerequisites:
  • Algebra – there is a strong math component to this course
  • Age 14+
  • Ability to do work at a high school level
• Topics: Mechanics, kinematics, energy, and momentum in the Fall. The second half of the course offered in the Spring will include waves, light, sound, electricity, and magnetism.
• Textbook: Inspire Physics, McGraw Hill

Fall 2026 14 Week Session: September 1st – December 17th, October Break October 5-9 and Thanksgiving Break November 23-27

Note: This class is a two semester class. You will need to register for both semesters for a-g credit.

Tuition: $700 ($740 charter school)

Registration will be open on Thursday May 14th for our Fall 2026 classes! When the classes are open for registration the button below will become live and we will send out an e-mail to our distribution list. If you are with Ocean Grove, please note that you can register at any time even if your ES is not available until Fall to submit your PO.
